UNICAL Suspends 4 Students Over Involvement In Water Ritual During Last Matriculation
Professor Florence Obi, the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), has approved the suspension of 4 students identified in a viral video and found guilty after unlawful participation in water ritual on a fellow female student during the last matriculation in December, 2022.
In a statement signed by Mr. Gabriel Egbe, the Registrar of UNICAL on Saturday, said the unlawful act was carried out during the last matriculation ceremony in December 2022.
The students suspended include Stephen Usen, a 400 level student of accounting; Aniefok Idorenyin, a 200 level student of computer science; Miracle Adeyemi, a 200 level student of Political Science; and Blessing Queen, a 400 level student of genetics and biotechnology.

The management deliberated extensively on the report of the committed on Gender-Based Violence and the outcome of the findings vehemently pointed out that they were culpable as directives have been given for the students to proceed on suspension with effect from the 2020/2021 academic session.
Egbe added that Deans, Heads of Departments (HOD) and other relevant officers of the university have been enjoined with the task of complying fully with the directive.
