The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi has commissioned an ultra-modern water reticulation project at the Faculty of Clinical Sciences built and donated to the institution by "UNICAL DOCTORS CLASS OF 1985".

Speaking prior to the commissioning, the Vice Chancellor thanked Unical doctors class '85 for the great feat, adding that the water reticulation project would impact the training of undergraduate medical students of the institution and will as well make life easy for the staff at the college.

While welcoming the class 85 to the institution, Prof. Florence Obi said she is happy to see the class give back to the system that made them noting that with the calibre of persons in class 85, it won't be out of place to state the University of Calabar is blessed to have international, national and local figures that are making us proud everywhere they are.

The University helmsman who described the class '85 as passionate and committed alumni and great ambassadors who think well for their Alma Mater said their legacies and selfless service to the University has been etched on the sands of time even as she urged them not relent in the effort of doing more for the University.

The Varsity administrator said with dwindling resources from the federal government, there is need for alumni to show support in the development of their Alma Mater even as she passionately commended various alumni classes whom have contributed to the growth of the University through their support.

To this end, she encouraged the class 85 to go round the University and see for themselves what have been done by her administration and to also bring to mind the memories of the old days.

Hear her: '' I'm happy that you have come to give back to the system that made you. I must also state here that, we are happy to hear of your exploits. You're indeed representing the University well. Thank you for making us s proud.  

"For a start, you started with water reticulation project and we believe is a giant project that we benefits all of us in the University. We are so happy, and you know, there is no University that won't be excited to have their alumni come back home to support the development of their institution.

"The funds today are dwindling rapidly and the state of things now is even worse than your time here as students. So for us, we believe this is the beginning of many more things your class is going to do for us as a University.

Earlier, the Governor, UNICAL Doctors class of '85 Dr ABC Orjiako said their visit to the University is necessitated by the impact the University has on them, hence their coming to give back for the system that made them and also to present themselves to Vice Chancellor for her support towards their mandate in the university.

The Governor stressed that the University of Calabar has done great things for them and that it'll be inhuman to turn their eyes off the needs of the Alma Mater noting that they responded quickly to the call from a fmr provost of the college and a member of the class 85, Prof. Saturday Etuk over lack of water reticulation that is greatly needed at the college.

According to Dr. ABC, the choice of water projects by the class is because the water problem is long overdue, and needs urgent attention even as he maintained that from their perspective, water is indeed life.

He assured that the water reticulation project is the beginning of what the class 85 would do to her Alma Mater even as he bemoaned the poor funding of education in the Nigeria

The commissioning of the water reticulation project was preceded by courtesies call on the Vice Chancellor and Provost of college of Medical Sciences Prof. Victor Ansa.

Highpoint of the epochal event was the formal handover of the project to an appreciative Vice Chancellor by an obviously elated governor of the class 85 for commissioning.
