The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, has pledged to rebuild the shop of Godsblessing Omachifu, an Agronomy student injured in a recent accident near the Okuku Campus.
Godsblessing, who sustains herself through proceeds from her noodles business, was among four students hit by a vehicle last Wednesday night. Others involved were Adigor Philomena of Human Physiology, Success Akomaye of Medical Biochemistry, and Obase Ojini Odenga, a University of Calabar student who had visited the campus.

Initially rushed to Catholic Maternity Hospital, Ogoja, the students were later transferred to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) on the directive of the Vice Chancellor, who noted the need for better medical facilities. They were admitted on Friday.
Prof. Bassey visited them at UCTH on Monday night, where she expressed gratitude to God for sparing their lives and reassured them of the University’s support. “I learnt you were worried about your shop. Don’t cry, Mama will rebuild it. I will also give you some support to restart your business. What matters most is your recovery, and I thank God you are in good hands,” she told Godsblessing.

Medical personnel at UCTH confirmed to the Vice Chancellor that all the students are responding positively to treatment. At the Catholic Maternity Hospital, doctors had earlier revealed that Godsblessing was in a coma for eight hours before regaining consciousness.
During her earlier visit to the accident scene, Prof. Bassey was informed that the injured student relied on her noodles shop to finance her education. The Vice Chancellor assured that the University will cover their medical bills and support their recovery.

Prof. Thomas Ojikpong, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), accompanied her on the hospital visit.
The University community continues to pray for the full and speedy recovery of the affected students.
