The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) Vice Chancellor, Professor Francisca Bassey, has received the leadership of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), UNICROSS Chapter, in a solidarity visit that reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to cooperate with Management.

The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) Vice Chancellor, Professor Francisca Bassey, has received the leadership of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), UNICROSS Chapter, in a solidarity visit that reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to cooperate with Management.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Committee during the visit, the Acting Chairman, Comrade Atim Nyong, assured the Vice Chancellor of NASU’s readiness to work in harmony with the University authorities. He described NASU members as the “foot soldiers of the institution” and emphasized that the Union is not in opposition to Management. Nyong also congratulated Professor Bassey on her confirmation as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the University.

In her response, Professor Bassey expressed gratitude to the Union for the gesture of solidarity, stressing that collaboration between staff and Management remains central to the progress of the institution. “If there is no cooperation and support to Management, the system suffers,” she remarked, while urging staff to embrace sacrifice and dedication for the University to thrive. She further stated that every worker must be willing to go the extra mile, take tasks beyond the office, and help sustain the smooth running of the system.

Professor Bassey acknowledged NASU’s role in the recently concluded UNICROSS Staff Week Celebration and assured that subsequent editions would surpass previous ones. Drawing from her personal academic journey, she pledged to instill the “spirit of distinction” in her leadership at UNICROSS.

The visit, which ended with the signing of the visitor’s book and a group photograph, was described by Comrade Atim Nyong as a step towards building stronger trust and cooperation between NASU and the University Management.
