The University of Delta (UNIDEL) has been recognized among five Nigerian institutions selected for the Plastic Waste Management Project, an initiative supported by the French Embassy in Nigeria to promote sustainable innovation and environmental responsibility.

The University of Delta (UNIDEL) has been recognized among five Nigerian institutions selected for the Plastic Waste Management Project, an initiative supported by the French Embassy in Nigeria to promote sustainable innovation and environmental responsibility.

The project aims to fund and support research focused on sustainable development, circular economy, gender inclusivity, and entrepreneurial innovation. It also fosters capacity building and knowledge exchange through training programs, research collaborations, and academic mobility between Nigerian and French institutions.

Out of thirteen universities that participated, five were selected by an independent committee based on the quality and impact of their proposals. The laureate institutions include:

  2. Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike (FUNAI)

  5. Yaba College of Technology

To celebrate the achievement, the French Embassy in Nigeria hosted a Prize Remittance Reception on October 9, 2024, at the Résidence de France, where awards were presented to the Vice-Chancellors, institutional representatives, and project leads of the five winning universities.

UNIDEL’s recognition underscores its growing commitment to environmental innovation and sustainable research, positioning the institution as a key contributor to Nigeria’s green transition and academic collaboration with global partners.
