UNILAG Architecture Alumnus Achieves Prestigious Martin Weaver Scholarship Award

Mr. Ifeloju Olusanya, a distinguished alumnus of the University of Lagos' Department of Architecture, has garnered the prestigious Martin Weaver Scholarship Award. Currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Kansas, Mr. Olusanya was honored with this accolade during the 2023 Association for Preservation Technology (APT) International Conference held in the United States.

The scholarship recognizes his outstanding contributions to the field of historic preservation, particularly for his pioneering research that expands the boundaries of heritage definition to promote inclusivity within architecture and historic preservation research and practice. His work underscores the importance of acknowledging and supporting the cultural heritage of historically marginalized communities.

During the conference, Mr. Olusanya delivered a presentation on the cultural heritage track entitled "Exploring Heritage-led Development as a Catalyst for Sustainable Transformation in the Historic Core of Badagry, Lagos State, Nigeria, Africa."

The Martin Weaver Student Scholarship is designed to foster the development of emerging professionals in the early stages of their careers in Historic Preservation/Conservation. It aims to support the growth of these budding experts in their respective fields and endorse innovative research endeavors, including international travel opportunities.
