 The University of Lagos (UNILAG) recently hosted accounting experts at the J. F. Ade. Ajayi Auditorium for the fourth edition of the Accounting and Entrepreneurship Summit for Students (ACCESS 4.0). Organized by the Nigerian Universities Accounting Students’ Association (NUASA), UNILAG Chapter, the summit aimed to empower accounting students for success in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

The summit featured three keynote speeches, with Dr. Innocent Okwuosa, FCA, representing the 59th President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), emphasizing the evolving role of accountants as business innovators. Dr. Deji Awobotu highlighted the changing accounting landscape and the importance of leveraging technology for competitive advantage. Prof. Adebayo Paul Adejola explored the significance of digital tools for accountants, emphasizing the need for versatility and strategic thinking.

The panel sessions covered topics such as navigating the future of accounting, students' empowerment and career development, and becoming drivers of change in the industry. Experts discussed essential skills for success, including proactive learning, skill development, and ethical conduct.

The summit also hosted an Inter School Quiz Competition and a Case Study Business Challenge. LASU emerged as the winner of the quiz competition, while Team GI Joe from UNILAG clinched the top prize in the business case study challenge.

ACCESS 4.0 highlighted the importance of continuous learning, adaptability, and ethical behavior for accountants to thrive in a technology-driven world. The event emphasized the need for a strong foundation in accounting principles alongside the adoption of digital tools.
