The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Horticulture and Beautification Committee has officially launched the Adopt, Beautify, University Maintains (ABUM) scheme — a campus-wide initiative aimed at enhancing the University’s horticultural landscape and aesthetic appeal through partnership and community involvement.

The ABUM Scheme

Under the ABUM initiative, over 100 spaces have been identified across the UNILAG campus for adoption, beautification, and maintenance. The programme is designed as a win-win partnership between the University and its stakeholders — including business enterprises, traders, banks, prominent alumni, and other community members.

Each participating stakeholder who adopts a space will have their name or business brand prominently featured on the beautified area as recognition for their contribution to the University’s environment.

Already, a notable on-campus business, Iya Moria Restaurant and Catering Services, has become the first participant in the scheme by adopting a site beside the Senate House.

Call to Community Members and Stakeholders

The Committee aims to transform UNILAG’s landscape by December 2025, reinforcing the institution’s reputation as the “Nation’s Pride.”

All members of the University community and external stakeholders are encouraged to support the ABUM scheme as part of their corporate social responsibility and to help sustain a beautiful, eco-friendly campus environment.
