Professor Adebola Olumide Akinsulie of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) was celebrated by the UNILAG Senate in a valedictory session on June 26, 2024, marking his retirement from active service effective July 3, 2024.

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Senate held a valedictory session on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, to honor Professor Adebola Olumide Akinsulie of the Department of Paediatrics, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, as he prepares to retire from active university service on July 3, 2024.

In her remarks, Vice-Chancellor Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, extended congratulations on behalf of the UNILAG Senate, staff, and students to Professor Akinsulie for his dedicated service and significant contributions to the university and the academic community.

Professor Akinsulie expressed his gratitude to God, the University Senate, and the entire UNILAG community for fostering an environment that supported his growth and career achievements. He stated, “My time is now fully devoted to God as life actually starts at seventy.”

Born on July 3, 1954, Professor Akinsulie began his career at the College of Medicine, UNILAG, as Lecturer I in December 1992, and achieved the rank of Professor in October 2011. His tenure at UNILAG included several key positions, notably serving as Head of the Department of Paediatrics from 2012 to 2015.

Throughout his career, Professor Akinsulie has authored over forty-five professional publications in both local and international journals and supervised more than eighteen postgraduate resident doctors in their pursuit of fellowships in Paediatrics from the National Postgraduate Medical College.

A renowned paediatrician and clinical hematologist, Professor Akinsulie is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Paediatric Association of Nigeria (PAN), Nigeria Society of Paediatric Oncologists (NISPO), and the Society of International Oncologists (SIOP). Additionally, he serves as the Chairman of the Cathedral Church of the Cherubim & Seraphim Church of Christ “The Worshippers.”

Professor Adebola Olumide Akinsulie is married to Mrs. Ibironke Dolapo Akinsulie, and they are blessed with three children and a grandchild.
