The University of Lagos (UNILAG) applauds the exemplary efforts of participants in the Sustainability Challenge 2.0, as April's winners are honored for their tireless advocacy and dedication to environmental sustainability.

Gathering at the UNILAG Green Hub on Tuesday, April 14, 2024, participants were recognized and rewarded for their outstanding contributions to keeping the university campus free of plastic pollution. Led by Programme Coordinator Dr. Abdulganiyu Adelopo, the challenge has garnered significant momentum, with over 292,000 plastic bottles collected thus far.

In his welcome address, Dr. Adelopo commends the consistency and dedication of the winners, noting the collective impact of their efforts in preserving the environment. He reveals that since the launch of the campaign in 2023, over a million bottles have been tracked and collected, bringing the Sustainability Challenge closer to its target of 1.5 million bottles by June 2024.

Mr. Niyi Ayeye, Coordinator of the Works and Physical Planning Unit at UNILAG, presents prizes to the deserving winners and commends their performance in contributing to the cause. Encouraging more members of the university community to join the environmental sustainability challenge, Mr. Ayeye emphasizes the importance of collective action in addressing plastic waste pollution.

Among the April winners are individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the cause, including Mrs. Joy Eniola, who collected an impressive 50,917 bottles, and Ms. Adeleke Odunayo, a Year 3 student of Marine Sciences, who won the weekly Essay Contest with her insightful entry titled "A Greener You, a Healthier World."

As UNILAG prepares for a mega event in June 2024, marking a significant milestone in the Sustainability Challenge, anticipation runs high for continued engagement and participation. With the challenge continuing until the end of the semester, the university community is encouraged to join hands in creating a cleaner, greener campus for generations to come.
