The University of Lagos (UNILAG) will join a global consortium of academic and research institutions for the launch of the Circular Economy Powered Renewable Energy Centre (CEPREC) on February 10, 2025.
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is set to join a distinguished consortium of academic and research institutions for the official launch of the Circular Economy Powered Renewable Energy Centre (CEPREC) on Monday, February 10, 2025. The £3.5 million research centre is dedicated to accelerating Africa’s energy transition through circular economy principles.
The official unveiling of CEPREC will be marked by a Virtual Press Conference scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (Nigerian time), featuring a lineup of discussions on innovation, sustainability, and collaboration between academia, industry, and governments.
CEPREC, a Pan-African initiative funded by the Ayrton Fund of the United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI), brings together leading institutions to pioneer renewable energy solutions for Africa’s sustainable future. Alongside UNILAG, partner institutions include De Montfort University, the University of Warwick, and Chatham House (UK); Strathmore University (Kenya); the University of Namibia (Namibia); the University of Sierra Leone (Sierra Leone); Kigali Collaborative Research Centre (Rwanda); Tshwane University of Technology (South Africa); the University of Nairobi (Kenya); and the University of Nigeria (Nigeria).
The Virtual Press Conference will provide a platform to introduce CEPREC’s mission, highlight its impact-driven research, and unveil key insights into its future roadmap. Attendees will gain first-hand knowledge of how academia and stakeholders are working together to harness renewable energy innovations to shape Africa’s energy landscape.
The launch of CEPREC underscores UNILAG’s commitment to cutting-edge research and its role in fostering global partnerships aimed at tackling Africa’s energy challenges. As the continent seeks sustainable solutions to power its industries and communities, initiatives like CEPREC offer a transformative approach by integrating circular economy principles into renewable energy development.
The February 10 event promises to be a milestone in Africa’s energy transition, bringing together leading experts and institutions to drive impactful change through research and innovation.
