The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, has bagged the Management Excellence Award of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) (Chartered), UNILAG Chapter.

The Vice-Chancellor was among dignitaries who were presented with awards at the body’s 2023 Management Excellence Seminar and Fair, held at the J. F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium of the university.

Speaking at the event, Professor Ogunsola who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa challenged NIM members to see their gathering as a platform for self-evaluation while also setting a new agenda for themselves towards transforming UNILAG into a 21st-century ivory tower.

While applauding the rank and file of the NIM (Chartered), UNILAG Chapter for their individual and collective contributions towards the smooth running of the university, Prof. Ogunsola charged them to deploy their expertise into making suggestions which would guide management in the onerous task of achieving the Future-Ready Agenda.

In her address, the National President and Chairman of Council, NIM Chartered, Dr. (Mrs.) Christiana Atako FNIM commended the University authorities; NIM UNILAG Chapter Chairman, Dr. Dorcas Nyalas-Omeire, MNIM; and members of the Chapter for hosting the Seminar and Fair. Her words, “Without doubt, a programme like this is one of the ways of not only bringing members of the Chapter together to interact amongst themselves but also provides an avenue of keeping members abreast of the latest development in the management profession. The Institute approves of and supports programmes of this nature as they go a long way in building well rounded and robust members. I am very delighted by this very commendable and laudable step in the right direction”.

Dr. (Mrs.) Atako used the opportunity provided by the event to invite members of the University community to upcoming programmes of the Institute including the 2023 Distinguished Management Lecture to be delivered by Rotimi Oladele, PhD, a distinguished Fellow of NIM, on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at the Chris Abebe Auditorium, Management House, Victoria Island, Lagos, with the theme, “Management: The Pragmatic Pathway to Excellent Corporate Dynamics and Governance”.

The Executive Director, University of Lagos Business School (ULBS), Professor Mike Adebamowo who also received the NIM (Chartered) UNILAG Chapter Award of Management Excellence delivered the keynote address for the Seminar and Fair.

Speaking on the theme: Management Excellence for Developing Quality Staff Members, Professor Adebamowo buttressed the need for the adoption of best practices and management strategies to foster continuous improvement, increase efficiency and enhance productivity levels.

Prof. Adebamowo’s presentation combed through the principles, benefits, challenges and indispensability of excellent management in running any organization, a tool which he said must be upheld for optimal productivity, career fulfilment and all-round development in any organization.

Other speakers at the Seminar were the Director, Directorate of Senate and Academic Affairs, Lagos State University, Dr Olubukunola Kolawole who spoke on Time Management, and the Counsellor, Summit University, Offa, Kwara State, Dr Mustapha Sanbe whose presentation was on Emotional Intelligence and the 21st Century Manager.

The duo charged the gathering to embrace the right management principles, shun unhealthy and unethical practices within their workspaces and see their individual roles as factors which would affect the overall organizational performance.

Other highlights of the 2-day Seminar and Fair which held with the theme: Management Excellence for Optimal Productivity included presentation of awards to National President of the Nigerian Institute of Management, Dr (Mrs) Christiana Atako who was represented by the Lagos branch Chairman of the institute, Mrs. Bridget Babalola, exhibition fairs among other activities.

The closing session of the 2023 Management Excellence Seminar and Fair which was rounded up on Friday, June 16, 2023, featured presentations by Professor Owolabi Kuye who spoke on methods and theories of personnel motivation for optimal performance and Mr. Bayo Adegbiji who also enlightened the gathering on innovations and ICT as a tool for promoting staff proficiency.
