MSSN Yobe State University Bans Overnight Stay in Campus Mosques
The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Yobe State University chapter, has prohibited overnight stays in campus mosques to address rising maintenance costs, misuse of facilities, and theft
In a recent development, the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Yobe State University chapter, has prohibited overnight stays in campus mosques. The announcement, issued on November 25, 2024, follows a meeting held on November 20, 2024, by the society’s leadership to address concerns over the welfare and maintenance of university mosques.
The MSSN leadership highlighted that the mosques had been increasingly used beyond their intended primary purposes, including for sleeping and prolonged stays. These activities, the society noted, have led to a rise in maintenance costs, mismanagement of mosque facilities, and incidents of theft.
To mitigate these issues, it was resolved that no one would be allowed to sleep or spend the night in the mosques. The mosques will now close at 9:30 p.m. daily, immediately after the Ishaa prayer.
The society assured the university community that a pamphlet outlining further rules and regulations for the use of the mosques will be made available.
The statement was endorsed by MSSN’s Grand Patron, Professor Mala M. Daura, Vice Chancellor of Yobe State University, and Dr. Yahaya Hamza Abubakar, Chief Imam of the Yobe State University Central Mosque.
