UNIMAID Commemorates UN@80 with Tree-Planting Exercise

The University of Maiduguri marked the 80th anniversary of the United Nations (UN@80) with a symbolic tree-planting exercise, themed "80 Trees for 80 Years."

The event, led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, brought together staff, students, and stakeholders to promote environmental sustainability and reaffirm the UN's commitment to peace, development, and climate action.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Babagana Bako highlighted the University's dedication to preserving the environment, while Professor Buba M. Sastawa noted the importance of trees in providing food, shelter, and environmental stability. The University has planted over 200,000 trees across the state, including roadside shelterbelts and indigenous species.
