The University of Port Harcourt has officially commissioned a 350-capacity Arts Theatre for the Department of Theatre and Film Studies in the Faculty of Humanities.

The project, executed under the TETFund 2023 Annual Intervention, was declared open by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill.

The newly completed facility is fitted with a box office, lighting booth, green room, costume room, workshop, and offices, providing a comprehensive environment for both academic and professional training.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Georgewill described the theatre as a milestone achievement that will foster creativity, innovation, and academic excellence within the arts. He emphasized that the facility is not only a physical structure but also a platform to nurture and refine the talents of students in theatre and film.

The theatre is expected to serve as a venue for practical examinations, departmental play productions, and other academic activities. With its modern design and facilities, it will significantly enhance the teaching and learning experience while preparing students for careers in theatre and film.
