“University of Ibadan Believes in Peer Review,” says DVC

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration of the University of Ibadan, Professor Peter O. Olapegba, FNPA, fspsp, C.Psych, FSSAN, has reaffirmed the University’s belief in peer review as an avenue to improve its academic programmes. 

He gave this reaffirmation on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, while receiving an assessment team to the Department of Quantity Surveying from the Professional Body of Quantity Surveying Board of Nigeria during a courtesy visit to the office of the Vice-Chancellor.

Professor Olapegba restated that the exercise was not merely to regulate the department’s activities but to ensure quality, adding that learning is continuous and UI is always ready to learn.

Despite paucity of funds, the DVC disclosed that the University has invested a lot towards the development of the Department of Quantity Surveying and reassured the board of continued support to the department.

He stressed the commitment of the University management to maintaining the institution’s tradition of excellence and expressed hope that the assessment exercise and interaction with students will enable the university to strengthen the department.

He appreciated the sacrifice of the Board in ensuring that quality is maintained in training Quantity Surveyors for national development and reaffirmed the full cooperation of the university towards a successful exercise. 

The leader of the team, Professor Agu Nathan said the visit was to strengthen the university’s Department of Quantity Surveying and ensure that it has a solid existence.

He noted that the exercise was not to witch hunt, explaining that it was a form of feasibility study to help improve the academic practise and contribute to the professional development of students in training.

Professor Nathan appreciated the University for inviting the Board to conduct the assessment exercise and assured that recommendations in areas for improvement will be communicated to the university management in due course. 

On Professor Agu Nathan’s entourage were QS Whitney Ugo, representative of the Registrar of the Quantity Surveying Board of Nigeria, QS Olayinka Kingsley-Otaru and QS Adenike Ayanda. 

The board was led on the visit by the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Design and Management, Professor A. M. Alabi and accompanied by the acting Head, Department of Quantity Surveying, Dr. Feyisetan Leo-Olagbaye and other faculty members.
