University of Ibadan Deputy VC Urges Professional Regulatory Bodies to Support Nigerian Universities

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration at University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Olapegba has urged professional regulatory bodies, including the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, to support Nigerian universities in overcoming challenges related to student training.

He made this statement during an orientation programme held at University of Ibadan (UI) for foreign-trained pharmacists in collaboration with the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) and the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Orientation Committee.

The six-week programme aims to certify Nigerian pharmacists who received their training abroad.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration at UI, Professor Peter O. Olapegba, FNPA, expressed pride in hosting this international training programme. He added that UI, as Nigeria's premier institution, is well-equipped to facilitate cross-cultural knowledge exchange.

He emphasized the importance of a continuous symbiotic relationship between professional bodies and academic institutions.

The DVC also commended UI's Faculty of Pharmacy for leveraging its alumni network to secure resources for faculty advancement. He also assured the delegation of its full support for the ongoing orientation programme.

Dr. Anthony Idoko, a Director in the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, expressed gratitude to UI for hosting the programme. Dr. Idoko also stated that a similar orientation programme for foreign-trained pharmacists is being conducted simultaneously at the University of Jos.
