University of Ibadan Holds Matriculation Ceremony for 5,000 New Learners at Distance Learning Centre

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), University of Ibadan, Professor Peter O. Olapegba, FNPA, fspsp, has urged newly admitted students of the Distance Learning Centre (DLC) to understand that genuine success is not accidental but the outcome of deliberate and disciplined choices.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), University of Ibadan, Professor Peter O. Olapegba, FNPA, fspsp, has urged newly admitted students of the Distance Learning Centre (DLC) to understand that genuine success is not accidental but the outcome of deliberate and disciplined choices.

Delivering an address on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, at the 2024/2025 Matriculation Ceremony of the Centre, Professor Olapegba encouraged the matriculants to be intentional in their academic and social decisions, noting that every relationship, conversation, lecture, and experience during their stay in the University would shape their character and determine their future.

He reminded the students that the University of Ibadan is a vibrant intellectual community where academic pursuit blends harmoniously with social engagement, and that each student bears full responsibility for the outcomes of their academic journey.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor cautioned the students against any act of indiscipline or behaviour inconsistent with the University’s values, stressing that the institution operates under a clear code of conduct designed to promote a safe, conducive, and uninterrupted learning environment.

Reiterating the University’s zero tolerance for misconduct, he urged the students to strictly adhere to all rules and regulations, warning that the institution’s hard-earned reputation for excellence must be protected at all times.

Professor Olapegba further advised the matriculants to immerse themselves fully in the rigours of their academic programme and to guard against distractions that could derail their progress. He described the University of Ibadan as a symbol of excellence in both learning and character, and charged the students to embody these ideals in their conduct.

He encouraged them to embrace challenges, celebrate achievements, and approach every phase of their studies as an opportunity for personal growth and self-discovery. According to him, true success would ultimately be measured not only by grades, but also by the depth of their insight, resilience, and the positive impact they make on society.

The Registrar, Mr. Ganiyu O. Saliu, fspsp, FCIML, FNIM, administered the Matriculation Oath to the new students.

A total of 5,000 learners were formally matriculated into 16 academic programmes at the Distance Learning Centre for the 2024/2025 Academic Session.
