Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) has commenced a strategic partnership with the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) to advance democratic governance, peace-building and regional cooperation.

The partnership was initiated on Monday, July 6, 2026, when the Vice-Chancellor of NSUK, Sa'adatu Hassan Liman, received a delegation from the Centre for Democracy and Development at her office in the Senate Building, Keffi.

During the meeting, Professor Liman reaffirmed the university's commitment to building strategic collaborations that address national and continental challenges through research, innovation and evidence-based policy engagement.

She described the proposed partnership as timely, noting that universities have a critical role in providing intellectual leadership and practical solutions to emerging governance and foreign policy issues affecting Nigeria and Africa.

The Vice-Chancellor also appreciated the Centre for Democracy and Development for selecting NSUK as its academic partner for an upcoming public engagement programme, assuring the delegation of the university's full institutional support for its successful implementation.

Professor Liman further stressed the need for stronger collaboration among government institutions, academia and civil society organisations, stating that sustainable peace, democratic stability and regional integration can only be achieved through collective action.

Earlier, the Director of the Centre for Democracy and Development, Dauda Garuba, commended the management of NSUK for its commitment to academic excellence and praised Professor Liman's leadership, which he said has continued to enhance the university's national and international reputation.

Dr. Garuba explained that the Centre, known for promoting democratic governance through research, policy advocacy and strategic engagement, sought NSUK's partnership to co-host a major public awareness programme scheduled for July 18, 2026.

According to him, the programme is intended to stimulate informed public discussions on Nigeria's evolving diplomatic relations with South Africa and other African countries while promoting peace, mutual understanding, democratic values and stronger regional cooperation across the continent.

As part of the visit, the CDD delegation presented specialised academic textbooks on governance, democracy, peace studies and international relations to the Vice-Chancellor for the university library to strengthen research and scholarship in those fields.

In appreciation, Professor Liman presented official NSUK souvenirs to the visiting delegation as a symbol of the university's commitment to productive institutional partnerships.

The visit concluded with a commemorative group photograph, marking the beginning of a collaboration expected to contribute to democratic governance, policy research and regional diplomacy while further strengthening NSUK's reputation as a leading centre for academic excellence, innovation and national development.
