University of Ibadan (UI) VC Urges Graduands to Champion National Development at 2024 Convocation Ceremony

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, has called on the institution's 2024 graduating class to embody courage, resilience, forthrightness, and a passion for contributing to Nigeria's development.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, has called on the institution's 2024 graduating class to embody courage, resilience, forthrightness, and a passion for contributing to Nigeria's development.

Addressing the graduands during the second day of the 2024 Convocation ceremonies, where 6,553 graduates received degrees and 111 diplomas were awarded, Professor Adebowale emphasized the need for the graduates to leverage their knowledge and skills to navigate uncertainties and propel Nigeria toward greatness.

"Believe in Nigeria's rich history and potential to be one of the world's leading nations," he charged. "Go forth with confidence, seize opportunities, lead change, and claim your rightful place at the top."

The event, which saw graduands from the Faculties of Agriculture, Social Sciences, Education, Veterinary Medicine, Technology, Pharmacy, Renewable Natural Resources, and Environmental Design and Management, also featured a keynote address by Dr. Oluseye Alabi, Chief Executive Officer of YSA Energy Services Ltd and UI alumnus.

In his presentation, titled "Unleashing Your Potential: Hard Work, Diligence, Adaptability, and Character," Dr. Alabi urged the graduates to embrace hard work, diligence, godly character, and selfless service while rejecting corruption, vices, nepotism, and internet fraud.

“Hard work is the bedrock of accomplishments, diligence refines your skills, adaptability ensures relevance, and character is the compass of integrity and your greatest asset,” Dr. Alabi said. He challenged the graduates to apply their education to solving societal issues and to be pillars of hope for Nigeria's future.

The ceremony also celebrated academic excellence with prizes awarded to the best graduating students across various faculties. The graduates were encouraged to uphold the institution’s legacy and contribute meaningfully to their communities and the nation at large.

The event marked a significant milestone for the University of Ibadan, highlighting its commitment to producing graduates equipped to drive positive change and sustainable development in Nigeria.
