On July 3rd, the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) proudly inaugurated the Smile Train KidsOR, a cutting-edge operating room dedicated exclusively to pediatric surgeries. This milestone achievement is the result of a collaborative effort between two renowned NGOs: Smile Train and KidsOR, both committed to advancing pediatric surgical care.

The Smile Train KidsOR boasts state-of-the-art medical technology, ensuring optimal conditions for young patients. Among its features are an Intensive Care Unit, a dedicated recovery room, and a playroom designed to create a child-friendly environment. This comprehensive facility aims to enhance the overall experience for children undergoing surgery.

Professor Datonye Alasia, representing the Chief Medical Director of UPTH, emphasized the room’s impeccable design and adherence to the highest standards. Smile Train’s Senior Program Manager, Mrs. Victoria Awaze Ogundipe, underscored the broader impact of the KidsOR. Notably, the facility is equipped with solar power, ensuring uninterrupted surgeries even during power outages. This innovation aligns with Smile Train’s mission to provide free cleft lip and palate surgeries and other critical treatments for children.
