The Auditor General of the Federation has raised eyebrows over the management of funds at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra state. In a recent report submitted to the National Assembly, it was revealed that the university allegedly spent a whopping N106 million on unauthorized expenses, including Christmas hampers and productivity bonuses for board members.

The audit report, disclosed in December 2023, highlighted several financial irregularities, including the lack of appropriation for the expenditure in the 2000 report. Among the alleged infractions were payments of N41 million in 'sitting allowances' to individuals not entitled to such benefits, unauthorized spending amounting to N7.5 million, and unapproved investments totaling N165 million, with no accountability for accrued interests.
