Unizik Elects New Student Union Government Officials for 2023/24

Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s Student Union Government (SUG) elections have concluded, with Samuel Messiah Eze from the Department of Building elected President. Favour Chioma Chidi was chosen as Vice President, Francis Ajaegbu as Financial Secretary, and Patrick Onwuegbule as Director of Welfare/Socials, among other new officials. The elections, held virtually on August 23, 2024, saw high student engagement.

The Students Union Government (SUG) at Nnamdi Azikiwe University has elected its new officials for the 2023/24 academic session. Samuel Messiah Eze from the Department of Building in the Faculty of Environmental Sciences has been declared the President-elect.

The announcement was made by Professor Makodi Biereenu-Nnabugwu, the returning officer and Dean of the Student Affairs Unit, following a virtual election held on August 23. Eze secured 1,354 votes, edging out Solomon Omachionu Offor from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, who received 1,111 votes, and Emmanuel Ezechukwu from the Department of Philosophy, who garnered 154 votes.

The election saw substantial engagement from the student body, as confirmed by data from the Election Monitoring Room.

In addition to Eze’s victory, several other key positions were filled. Favour Chioma Chidi from the Department of History and International Studies was elected Vice President with 1,666 votes. Chioma Ohiaeri from the Department of English Language and Literature was chosen as Secretary General with 1,302 votes, and Queendalyn Ugonma Omeje of the Faculty of Law was elected Assistant Secretary with 1,583 votes.

Favour Chioma Chidi, SUG Vice-President Elect

Francis Ajaegbu from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology was named Financial Secretary with 2,386 votes. Hillary Onwuasoizu from the Department of Computer Science was elected Public Relations Officer with 1,317 votes, and Patrick Onwuegbule from the Department of Civil Engineering secured the role of Director of Welfare/Socials with 2,447 votes.

Favour Chinonso Ogidi from the Department of Parasitology and Entomology will serve as Treasurer with 1,232 votes, while Favour Mmesoma Uchigbue from the Department of Human Kinetics was elected Director of Sports with 2,345 votes.
