Dr. Joe Tarkon, a Nigerian-born physician based in the U.S. and presiding pastor of the City of David Parish of RCCG in Atlanta, Georgia, is set to visit his alma mater, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), with a philanthropic mission.

On May 17 and 18, the 3,500-capacity Amphitheatre of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile Ife will witness a special homecoming as one of its esteemed alumni, Dr. Joe Tarkon, returns with a mission to give back to his alma mater. Dr. Tarkon, a Nigerian-born physician currently based in the United States and serving as the presiding pastor of the City of David Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Atlanta, Georgia, is embarking on a philanthropic journey to OAU.

During his visit, Dr. Tarkon will bring a wealth of support and resources to the university community and its environs. His agenda includes providing medical empowerment, leadership development training, and hosting an evangelistic Christian crusade featuring gospel artists such as Paul Tomisin and Peterson Okopi.

Having trained as a physician at OAU several decades ago, Dr. Tarkon has since been practicing medicine in the U.S. while also serving as a senior pastor in RCCG. Throughout his career, he has been deeply concerned about the state of medical practice in Nigeria, particularly the challenges faced by underserved communities in accessing quality healthcare.

Notably, he ran the Vital Health program, a weekly health education radio program that aired on several Nigerian radio stations between 2016 and 2022.
