FUTMINNA VC Urges Confidentiality, Warns HODs Against Unauthorized Disclosure of Official Information
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, has urged staff of the University, particularly Heads of Departments, to uphold confidentiality and professionalism in the discharge of their official responsibilities.
Prof. Kuta gave the charge on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Lecture Theatre of the School of Information and Communication Technology, Main Campus, during a One-Day Second Refresher Workshop organized by the University’s SERVICOM Unit for Heads of Departments.
The workshop, themed “The Critical Role of Heads of Departments in the Service Delivery Chain of the University,” was designed to strengthen the capacity of HODs to contribute effectively to the attainment of the University’s institutional objectives through professionalism, sound work ethics, effective communication and improved service delivery.

Declaring the workshop open, the Vice-Chancellor stressed the importance of confidentiality in the university system. He warned that unauthorized disclosure of official information could damage an officer’s reputation, undermine productivity and negatively affect institutional development.
He also called on participants to embrace emerging technologies and deploy available resources effectively to improve service delivery, particularly in the face of increasing societal demands and the rapidly evolving technological landscape.
Prof. Kuta further emphasized the need for HODs to be proactive in identifying and addressing challenges that could impede effective service delivery.
On communication within the University, the Vice-Chancellor urged participants to adhere strictly to approved communication channels when transmitting official information, noting that an effective communication system is essential to institutional efficiency and coordination.
He commended the SERVICOM Unit for organizing the workshop and encouraged participants to actively engage with the presentations and translate the knowledge and skills acquired into improved performance within their respective departments.
Earlier, the Convener of the workshop and Focal Officer of the University’s SERVICOM Unit, Prof. Adamu Kabiru, reaffirmed SERVICOM’s commitment to improving service delivery across public institutions in Nigeria.
Prof. Kabiru noted that FUT, Minna had distinguished itself as the only university in the country to have attained a five-star SERVICOM rating in service delivery. He said the refresher training was intended to sustain and further consolidate the University’s achievement.
He urged the HODs to renew their commitment to sound work ethics, professionalism and responsive service delivery, while thanking University Management for its continued support, as well as facilitators and participants for their contributions to the success of the programme.
The workshop was conducted in two sessions, morning and afternoon, with presentations by senior University officials and experts on various aspects of departmental administration, service delivery and institutional effectiveness.
The morning session was chaired by the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Suleiman Omeiza Sadiku. The Convener, Prof. Adamu Kabiru, presented the lead paper titled “Critical Role of Heads of Departments in Service Delivery Chain of the University: University Work Ethics.”
