The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, has called on religious leaders and groups to work for peace and progress and inculcate the core values of the University in minds of their followers.
The vice-chancellor made the call in his message to the leaders of the Christian community in the University, recently.
The occasion was the gathering to commence clearing of the plot of land allocated to the Christians by the Management of FULafia to serve as a place of worship for the adherents of the Christian religion.
Represented by the Head of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Abubakar Ibrahim, the vice-chancellor described religion as a very important instrument of socialisation and social control which can be used in organising and directing social life of staff and students and preserve social norms.
The vice-chancellor expressed his joy with the step taken by the Christian body to commence activities on the land, urging them to remain focused.
Receiving the vice-chancellor on the site, Prof. Victor Dugga, the Dean of the FULafia Postgraduate School and one of the leaders of the Christian community in the University, expressed his gratitude to the vice-chancellor for allocating plots of land to religious bodies to building their place of worship, saying that would go a long way in promoting peaceful coexistence and improve the moral wellbeing of both staff and students on campus.

Highlighting the important role religion plays in society and, particularly, in university environment, he said that one of the first things the vice-chancellor did on his assumption of office in February 2021 was to allocate plots of land to religious bodies on campus to enable them to function properly.
Dugga said that the land allocated to the Christian community was shared between the Catholics and Protestants, stating that the clearing of the land signified that it had been taken over by the Christian community and development would soon start.
Those who were on site to receive the vice-chancellor included Wing Comdr. Umar Mohamed Awe, the Director of Environmental Safety, Mr. Femi Ogungbemi, Principal Assistant Registrar, and other officials of the Christian community.
