In a recent turn of events, nursing students in Abia State have found themselves embroiled in controversy as some claim they were unjustifiably screened out from the re-ordered Preliminary Test Session (PTS) examinations. The dispute revolves around allegations of presenting fake WAEC results, prompting protests and disrupting the examination proceedings.

The State's Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, clarified that only students whose O'Level results were verified and confirmed as authentic were deemed eligible for the initial day of the exam, which commenced on Monday at a popular CBT centre in Umuahia.

The tension reached a boiling point when uniform-wearing nursing students attempted to halt the examination while protesting their exclusion. Notably, among the complainants were 75 "successful" students, particularly from Amachara School of Nursing, whose results were reportedly canceled.

Students insisted that they were prevented from participating based on claims by organizers that their WAEC results were not verified as authentic. Some argued that the notification to bring their original WAEC results came mere hours before the re-sit examination.

In response to these allegations, some nursing students asserted that they had submitted their O'Level results before receiving preliminary admissions to study nursing. Commissioner Okoronkwo, however, emphasized that measures were implemented to ensure a transparent exercise.

The Commissioner revealed that a rigorous verification process was in place, allowing only students with verified WAEC results to sit for the exam. Principals were urged to ensure students arrived with their original WAEC results for screening, and those with fake results were subsequently screened out.

To further ensure transparency, a mechanism was implemented to release results immediately after the exam. Successful students would sign their results before leaving the center, aiming to prevent any potential claims of result manipulation.

The examinations are scheduled to continue until Thursday, as stated by the Abia State Ministry of Health, while the controversy surrounding the alleged fake WAEC results continues to rock the nursing schools in the state.
