Yaba College of Technology Rector calls for e-learning transformation in Nigeria

The Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, has urged for a radical change in the way distance education is delivered in Nigeria. He made this appeal at the opening of a 4-day workshop on Open Distance and E-Learning for TVET Institutions in Africa, which was organized by the Commonwealth of Learning and hosted by the College.

Dr. Abdul said that distance learning should be more innovative and flexible, and proposed that the national academic program should be replaced by a mix of short courses offered by various distance education institutions in Nigeria.

e added that distance learning was already widely accepted in Nigeria, and encouraged the government and other stakeholders to embrace this new teaching method as the future of education.

The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof. Idris Bugaje, also spoke at the workshop, highlighting its relevance in the context of the global technological and educational revolution triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic.
