YABATECH Triumphs in National Engineering Competition: Leads the Way in Engineering Education for 2023

Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) in Lagos emerged as the winner of the Nigerian Genius (Campus Edition) 2023, which is an annual national engineering competition hosted by the Clintonel Innovation Centre (CIC) in Aba. This event brought together students from tertiary institutions across Nigeria to tackle complex engineering and manufacturing challenges.
The competition served as a platform for students to showcase their innovative skills, gain exposure to real-world engineering challenges, and learn from industry experts. It not only promotes engineering education but also enhances practical skills, problem-solving abilities, and leadership qualities among participants.

Out of 49 participating tertiary institutions, four finalists emerged, with Yaba College of Technology taking the top spot in engineering education for 2023. Additionally, YABATECH's team received a second award for incorporating the most innovative engineering design into their final solution.

Other finalists included:
- Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMINNA), which ranked number two and received the People’s Choice Award.
- University of Uyo (UNIUYO), ranked number three, and received the Sustainability Award for using recycled materials in their final solution.
- Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU), which ranked number four and received the Resilience Award for being the most resilient team.

The ranking of these institutions was based on various criteria, including engineering design and fabrication, teamwork, creativity, analytical thinking, engineering knowledge, problem-solving, and soft skills.
