Remarkably, Alena had already made headlines at the age of 12 when she gained admission to Arizona State University to study Engineering. After a year of rigorous studies, she made a pivotal decision to switch her career trajectory, opting to pursue her passion for medicine.
Taking a full course load at both Arizona State University and Oakwood University, Alena demonstrated exceptional academic prowess. In just one year, she completed two and a half years of college-level study in Engineering. Expressing her determination, Alena shared, "I really want to leave my mark on the world and lead a group of girls that know what they can do."
Alena's journey began with aspirations of becoming an Engineer, envisioning herself at NASA. However, a newfound passion for biology altered her course. "It actually took one class in engineering for me to say this is kind of not where I wanted to go. I think viral immunology really came from my passion for volunteering and going out there engaging with the world," she explained.
