339 Students Bag First Class At Covenant University
Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, achieved a historic milestone during its 19th convocation ceremony, where 339 students graduated with First-Class degrees. Registrar Regina Tobi-David announced that this year’s event, themed "Release of Eagles for 2024," celebrated the graduation of 1,607 students, including 1,456 undergraduates and 151 postgraduates.
A remarkable achievement was recorded at Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, as 339 students graduated with First-Class degrees during the institution’s 19th convocation ceremony. This significant milestone was announced by the Registrar, Regina Tobi-David, who officiated the conferment of First and Higher Degrees and the presentation of prizes in Ota.
The convocation ceremony, themed "Release of Eagles for 2024," celebrated the graduation of a total of 1,607 students, comprising 1,456 undergraduates and 151 postgraduates. Regina expressed her heartfelt congratulations to the graduates, noting that this year marked the first instance in Covenant University's history that such a high number of First-Class degrees had been awarded.
This achievement comes shortly after Covenant University was recognized as Nigeria’s top university in the prestigious 2024 Times Higher Education Rankings.
The Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings, published annually, assess universities on a global scale, evaluating over 1,907 institutions from 108 countries and regions for the 2024 edition. The ranking process relies on 18 criteria that include teaching quality, research environment, research quality, industry collaboration, and international outlook. This year, data from more than 134 million citations across 16.5 million research publications were analyzed, alongside responses from 68,402 academics worldwide. THE collected 411,789 data points from over 2,673 universities for this comprehensive analysis.
On the global front, the University of Oxford in the UK retained its top position for the ninth consecutive year, establishing a record as the longest-standing leader in THE's history, surpassing Harvard University's previous eight-year streak, which ended in 2011. Stanford University ascended to second place, while Harvard dropped to fourth, and the University of Cambridge shifted to fifth place after sharing the third position in 2023.
