FULafia Anti-Corruption Unit Holds Sensitisation Workshop for Staff
FULafia's Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) conducts a successful workshop promoting integrity and combating corruption within the University.
The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) recently hosted a one-day sensitisation workshop aimed at promoting integrity and encouraging zero tolerance for corruption. The event, titled "Corruption and Integrity: A Broad Context of Moral Principles in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria," was designed to raise awareness among staff about the detrimental effects of corruption and the importance of maintaining ethical conduct.
Held at the MIS Multi-purpose Hall, Permanent Site Campus, the workshop featured key speakers and was officially opened by the Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman. In his remarks, he expressed gratitude to the ACTU for organising the workshop and emphasized the core value of integrity at FULafia. He acknowledged the challenges individuals face in upholding integrity and reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption across the University. He also urged the ACTU to monitor various university operations such as teaching, examinations, contract awards, admissions, and employment.
Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), commended FULafia for its initiative and highlighted the importance of ACTU in promoting ethical standards. Represented by Mr. Tiku Menge, the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner for Benue State, Aliyu underscored the importance of instilling integrity among university staff and students to foster a culture of transparency and good governance.
Resource persons at the event included Professor Samaila Dakyes and Dr. Bello Dauda, who delivered insightful papers on corruption, integrity, and the role of moral principles in tertiary institutions. Their discussions shed light on the negative impact of corruption on Nigeria's development.
The Chairman of FULafia ACTU, Professor Ibrahim Ogiri Hassan, praised the Vice-Chancellor for his unwavering commitment to accountability and transparency, acknowledging the support from the University Management in ensuring ACTU's compliance with ICPC regulations. The workshop concluded with an award presentation to the Vice-Chancellor by the ICPC Chairman, symbolizing the collaborative efforts between the ICPC and FULafia in promoting integrity and combating corruption.
