The initiative is part of a nationwide effort to strengthen academic integrity and standardize the evaluation of undergraduate research across Nigerian universities.

Objectives of the Sensitization Programme

The programme is designed to:

  1. Familiarize departments with the NERD plagiarism detection framework.
  2. Outline the roles and responsibilities of Heads of Departments (HODs) and NERD Departmental Representatives in implementing the policy.
  3. Demonstrate the use of the NERD repository for undergraduate project submission and plagiarism verification.
  4. Address implementation challenges and share best practices for ensuring originality in undergraduate research.

The university emphasized that attendance is mandatory for all final-year students. Attendance will be taken on a department-by-department basis, and participation in the sensitization programme will serve as a prerequisite for graduation.
