AAUA Alumni Association Initiates N250,000 Award for Best Graduating Student

The Alumni Association of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, has unveiled plans to confer a substantial N250,000 prize upon the university's overall best graduating student in the upcoming academic year.

Addressing attendees at the 2023 biennial General Assembly of the Alumni Association in Akungba Akoko, Dr. Olumide Olugbemi-Gabriel, the Association's President, revealed that the proposed award aims to foster a culture of scholarship among students. He noted dissatisfaction among students with the meager prizes traditionally awarded for outstanding academic achievements.

In addition to the award announcement, Olugbemi-Gabriel shared the Association's commitment to supporting indigent and physically challenged students. He disclosed personal contributions, covering the school fees of at least four students in 2023. Furthermore, efforts are underway to enhance the transcript processing unit of the university for a more efficient transcript collection process.

During the General Assembly meeting, attended by 54 delegates from six association branches, the new constitution of the Association was ratified. The constitution introduces five new offices, including national social and welfare officer, national director of ICT, national Auditor, national director of women, and Director of PWDs. The additions aim to address specific needs, including the representation of people living with disabilities (PWDs) and women within the association.

O'Seun Ogunsakin, the national Event and Publicity Secretary, highlighted the inclusive provisions of the new constitution, ensuring the protection of women and PWDs. The constitution also includes provisions for sanctioning erring officers of the alumni.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Olugbenga Ige, commended the association's leadership for initiating work on an incomplete hostel project. Represented by the Director of the Advancement Office, Professor Victor Olumekun, Professor Ige praised the transparency of the Olugbemi-Gabriel-led administration, expressing optimism about its positive impact on the association and the university community.
