Abia Community Plans Fundraising to Repair MOUAU Structures Damaged in Student Riot
Amaba community in Abia state plans fundraising to aid in rebuilding damaged Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) structures following recent student unrest.

In response to the recent riot by students of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), the Amaba community in Abia state has announced plans to raise funds to assist in the repair of damaged structures within the university premises.
HRM Emmanuel O’tuwa, the traditional ruler of Amaba Kingdom, disclosed this initiative during a solidarity/appreciation visit to the Vice Chancellor of MOUAU, Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe. The monarch emphasized the community's disapproval of the riot and clarified that no member of the Amaba community was involved in the unrest.
Acknowledging the vital role of universities in societal development, King O’tuwa underscored the importance of adequate funding for educational institutions. He also highlighted efforts made by the community to enhance security and promote peaceful coexistence with the university and neighboring communities.

Various dignitaries, including former local government officials, the Abia State Commissioner for Agriculture, and spiritual leaders, expressed support for the Vice Chancellor and solidarity with the university administration.

In his response, Vice Chancellor Iwe expressed disappointment at the students' actions, noting the university's commitment to providing quality education despite financial constraints. He defended recent fee adjustments, stating they were aimed at benefiting the students in the long run.
Vice Chancellor Iwe expressed gratitude for the community's support and pledged to continue advancing the university's reputation and serving the community's interests.

The President General of the Amaba community, along with other community leaders and university officials, attended the solidarity visit, underscoring the unity between the community and the university.
