In a recent press statement, the Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Maduebibisi Iwe, announced the implementation of biometric capturing to enhance the integrity of the university's examinations and service delivery to graduates. The move comes as part of the administration's commitment to tackling impersonation during examinations and ensuring the timely processing of academic documents.
According to Iwe, the introduction of biometric capturing aims to address challenges such as missing examination scripts and unauthorized requests for academic documents by graduates and external bodies. The system is designed to streamline examination processes and transcript release while preventing fraudulent activities.

However, the VC expressed concerns over resistance from some academic and registry staff members who may benefit from the status quo, perpetuating corruption within the institution.
