The announcement came during a press conference where the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, shared crucial details about the government's decision.
Kanu stated that the schools have been given a window of opportunity to rectify the issues that led to their closure. The primary reasons cited for the shutdown were substandard curriculum, poor quality of teachers, and inadequate learning environments. The Commissioner emphasized that schools demonstrating a commitment to meeting the government's set standards would be considered for reopening.

"The major reason the government decided to shut down those schools is principally because of substandard curriculum and quality of teachers, and some of them because of the environment. So that’s the reason we said those who are committed to changing the way they operate and are able to meet the standards that the government has set up, the government will allow them to get back to work," Kanu explained.
He further mentioned that the government has set a target date for compliance and is determined to ensure that all schools in the state adhere to the established standards. However, Kanu noted that private schools have not shown the same level of commitment as their public counterparts.
