Abiodun, Oborevwori, Nwifuru Receive Babcock University Cybersecurity Awards

Babcock University, Ogun State, honored Governors Dapo Abiodun, Francis Nwifuru, and Sheriff Oborevwori for their contributions to cybersecurity and youth empowerment during a two-day cybersecurity workshop.

Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, has honoured the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, with the Excellence Award in Digital Transformation and Cybersecurity Leadership.

Similarly, Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, and Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, were recognised for their contributions to cybersecurity leadership and youth empowerment.

The awards were presented during a two-day cybersecurity workshop organised by Babcock University’s Department of Information Technology in collaboration with GXT International. The event aimed to enhance discussions on cybersecurity challenges and solutions in Nigeria.

Receiving the award on behalf of Governor Abiodun, Ogun State’s Special Adviser on Information Technology, Dayo Abiodun, commended Babcock University for its efforts in promoting digital security awareness. He reiterated the Ogun State Government’s commitment to integrating digital technology across various sectors.

Other award recipients included Senator Shuaib Salisu, who was recognised for ICT Policy and Cybersecurity Advocacy Excellence, and Honourable Tunbosun Alake, who received an award for advancing digital infrastructure and cybersecurity. The Delta State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Odinigwe Daniel Odigie, accepted the award on behalf of Governor Oborevwori.

The workshop featured a keynote address by Abdurahman Akanbi, Chief Executive Officer of Sycom Integrated Solutions, who highlighted the urgent need to safeguard Nigeria’s cyberspace from cyber threats. He called for institutions to strengthen their cybersecurity frameworks and advocated for better compensation for cybersecurity professionals to deter cybercriminal activities.

Lagos State Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, Tunbosun Alake, also spoke at the event, discussing government-funded opportunities for students in technology. He emphasized the importance of character development and cited the success of Babcock alumni behind Paystack as an example of how integrity and consistency lead to great achievements.

Additionally, Femi Oluwafemi, Executive Director at Momo PSB, advised students to develop skills beyond their academic curriculum to remain competitive in the digital industry.
