ABSU SUG Appeal to Governor Otti for Health Facilities and Road Safety Improvements
The students have appealed for the establishment of a functional hospital or health center within the university community to provide immediate medical attention to accident victims.
The Student Union Government (SUG) of Abia State University (ABSU) has urgently called on Governor Dr. Alex Otti to address critical issues affecting the university community, folllowing a tragic accident that claimed the life of 200-level Mass Communication student Chiamaka Alozie.

The heartfelt plea highlights the dire need for improved health facilities and road safety measures in Uturu, Isiukwuato Local Government Area of Abia State.
In a joint statement endorsed by Comrade Onyebuchi Purity C, Vice President of the Student Union Government, and Rt. Hon. Chukwukere Edward, Speaker of the Student Representative Council (SRC), the students expressed their deep frustration and sorrow over the recurring loss of lives along the Uturu-Ebonyi Road—a route heavily utilized by ABSU students.
"We lost our dear 200-level Mass Communication student, Miss Chiamaka Alozie, in a ghastly accident on Uturu Road," the statement read. "This is not the first time such a tragedy has occurred, and we cannot continue to lose our students under these preventable circumstances."

The students have appealed for the establishment of a functional hospital or health center within the university community to provide immediate medical attention to accident victims. The absence of adequate health facilities has left the student body vulnerable, with delays in medical care often leading to unnecessary loss of life.

Additionally, the Student Union has called for the installation of speed bumps along the Uturu-Ebonyi Road to curb dangerous driving and reduce the risk of collisions. They also advocate for the dualization of the road to further enhance safety and prevent future accidents.

The Vice President of the SUG, Comrade Onyebuchi Purity C, also highlighted the long-standing issue of inadequate electricity supply to the university and its surrounding areas, which has led to various challenges, including increased crime rates. "We have suffered from darkness for years, resulting in robbery and other security concerns. We humbly request that you use your good office to provide reliable electricity to the university and its environs," Purity C pleaded.
