The Management of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has announced that the institution has been disconnected from the national power grid by Kaduna Electric. The disconnection occurred on the evening of Thursday, November 28, 2024, following the University's inability to settle its outstanding electricity bills.

ABU has faced significant challenges in paying its monthly electricity bills due to the increase in electricity tariffs earlier this year. Despite paying over one billion Naira to the electricity provider since January 2024, the University continues to struggle with its financial obligations, including the cost of diesel used to power generators.

In light of these circumstances, the University Management is appealing for understanding from the ABU community as efforts are underway to settle the outstanding bills.
