Ahmadu Bello University Hosts World Bank Officials for L-PRES Project Inspection
The delegation toured several L-PRES intervention projects, including the solar-powered boreholes and forage seed storage facilities, which play a critical role in enhancing Nigeria's livestock sector amid climate change challenges.
World Bank officials visited the National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, to inspect the ongoing Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) intervention projects.
Led by Dr. Chidozie O. Anyiro, Co-Task Team Leader of the L-PRES project, the World Bank delegation was warmly received by the NAPRI Executive Director, Prof. Muhammad Rabiu Hassan, and other management staff. Dr. Anyiro noted that the visit aimed to assess the progress of the intervention projects and to further strengthen the collaboration between the World Bank and NAPRI in enhancing livestock productivity, commercialization, and resilience.
In his remarks, Dr. Sanusi Abubakar, the National Project Coordinator of L-PRES, emphasized the importance of the visit for the future planning of the projects. Prof. Hassan expressed appreciation for the solar-powered boreholes provided by L-PRES, which would resolve water shortages for livestock. He also highlighted NAPRI's contributions to national livestock research and training and its upcoming 100th anniversary in 2028.
