The Faculty of Environmental Design at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, organized a symposium to commemorate the 2024 World Habitat Day with the theme "Engaging Youth to Create a Better Urban Future." The event took place at the University Assembly Hall, Samaru, Zaria, and highlighted the role of young people in addressing urban challenges.

In his opening remarks, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Abdullahi Abubakar, emphasized the importance of the United Nations’ declaration of World Habitat Day, celebrated annually on October 1st. He called on professionals to mentor the younger generation to help them drive urban development and solutions.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, Prof. Jacob Jari expressed the university's commitment to motivating youth towards creating a better future. The Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Ahmed Adamu, commended the faculty for continuing the tradition of celebrating World Habitat Day and stressed the importance of supporting and training youth for future challenges.

The keynote speaker, Bldr. Sir Alderton Ewa Ewa, President of the Nigeria Institute of Building, highlighted the crucial role of mentorship for young professionals in shaping a better urban future. His address focused on the need for global cooperation and local action in improving the urban environment.

During the event, the Nigerian Institute of Architects launched an annual endowment fund of five million Naira for the best architectural design for B.Sc. and M.Sc. students.
