The Faculty of Sciences at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has conducted a workshop to train academic staff on the institution's unique examination standards. The event, held on December 2, 2024, at the university's headquarters in Abuja, aimed to familiarize staff with NOUN’s distinct examination procedures.
Dean of the faculty, Prof. Kolawole Lawal, highlighted the workshop's importance, particularly for staff transitioning from conventional universities. "NOUN operates differently, and this orientation ensures efficiency and alignment with our examination protocols," he stated.
Former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Technology, Innovation, and Research), Prof. Monioluwa Olaniyi, delivered a keynote on academic culture, emphasizing intellectual curiosity, adherence to institutional norms, and continuous adaptation to evolving educational demands.
Participants discussed challenges in aligning institutional guidelines with national laws, with Prof. Olaniyi advising collaboration with the university's legal unit and adherence to established statutes to resolve conflicts.
The workshop served as preparation for the upcoming examination and marking exercises, reinforcing NOUN’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
