Ahmadu Bello University Invites Proposals for Honorary Degrees Ahead of 44th Convocation
Candidates must be individuals of exceptional character, having made significant contributions to their fields or to the nation in areas such as public service, commerce, industry, science and technology, or the arts.
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has called for the submission of proposals for the conferment of honorary degrees during its 44th convocation ceremony. In line with Statute 11 (2), the university’s Visitor, Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor, and members of the Council and Senate are invited to recommend deserving individuals for the prestigious honor.
The Honorary Degrees Committee will review all proposals before presenting recommendations to the Senate and the Governing Council. Candidates must be individuals of exceptional character, having made significant contributions to their fields or to the nation in areas such as public service, commerce, industry, science and technology, or the arts.
Additionally, the university has outlined specific conditions for nominations, including that posthumous nominations may only be considered in exceptional cases within two years of the nominee’s death. Serving public officeholders are not eligible for nomination.
Proposals must be submitted to the Registrar by December 20, 2024, and should include a justification along with a detailed curriculum vitae of the proposed nominee. Only submissions from the university’s officers and governing bodies will be considered.
