Ahmadu Bello University Partners with REA for 10MW Solar Power Plant

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has signed a collaboration agreement with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) for the installation of a 10MW solar power plant.
The project, part of the Federal Government's Energizing Education Programme (EEP) Phase IV, aims to provide a reliable electricity supply to the university and its teaching hospital.
The agreement was signed by ABU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, and REA Managing Director, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, in Abuja. The project is expected to be completed within six to eight months and will include the provision of dedicated electricity distribution infrastructure, street lighting, and a renewable energy workshop and training centre.
The EEP Phase IV will benefit eight public universities, including ABU, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, and others. The solar power plant will generate and supply electrical power within the university's premises, with the beneficiary institution expected to pay for the electricity supplied.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa, highlighted the potential for the project to generate internally generated revenue for the university. The ABU Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the project, stating that it will significantly address the university's electricity challenges.
