At the 2024 Igbomina Day celebration, Mr. Kunle Akogun encouraged University of Ilorin students to embody the values of the Igbomina Anthem and maintain integrity in their pursuits.

Akogun Urges INSU Students to Uphold Cultural Values at UNILORIN

The Director of Corporate Affairs at the University of Ilorin, Mr. Kunle Akogun, urged the sons and daughters of Igbominaland to embrace the values embedded in the Igbomina Anthem during the 2024 Igbomina Day celebration. The event, hosted by the Igbomina National Students Union (INSU), took place on July 27, 2024, at the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences Lecture Theatre.

As the Grand Patron of INSU, Mr. Akogun highlighted the characteristics that define the Igbomina people—hard work, selflessness, integrity, incorruptibility, and community service. He emphasized that these values are reflected in the Anthem and encouraged students to maintain high standards of conduct, particularly as representatives of the University of Ilorin, known for its commitment to discipline.

“Keep the flag of Igbomina flying wherever you go,” Mr. Akogun said, urging students to be exemplary individuals and adhere to the university's rules and regulations to ensure a smooth academic journey. He congratulated the final year students on completing their examinations and wished them success in their future endeavors.

Dr. Simeon Tayo Arinde, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of the Performing Arts, echoed Mr. Akogun’s sentiments, reminding students of their duty to honor their ancestors by avoiding negative behavior both on and off campus. He encouraged them to follow the path of their predecessors and leave a positive legacy at the university.

Comrade Akeem Ayinla Ishola, the chairman of the occasion and head of the Akeem Ayinla Foundation, emphasized the significance of Igbomina Day, also known as “EKURU DAY,” as a celebration of cultural heritage that shapes their identity. He called for the preservation of this heritage in the face of modern challenges, noting its richness and the lessons it offers.
