Amaia Calhoun Excels, Clinches Best Graduating Student Award with Economics Degree at Spelman College
Amaia, who obtained her bachelor’s degree in Economics with a double minor in Spanish and Management & Organization, was honored as one of the top graduates for the 2023 class at Spelman College.
Amaia Calhoun, an outstanding scholar, has achieved academic excellence by securing an Economics degree with honors and emerging as the best graduating student of Spelman College in the United States.
Amaia, who obtained her bachelor’s degree in Economics with a double minor in Spanish and Management & Organization, was honored as one of the top graduates for the 2023 class at Spelman College.

Expressing her gratitude on LinkedIn, Amaia credited Spelman College for instilling the true meaning of sisterhood, especially as the only child of her parents. “I have Spelman to thank for being able to appreciate the true meaning of sisterhood. I would not have experienced the same level of academic and personal growth if it were not for the Spelman community,” she wrote.
Throughout her four years at Spelman, Amaia consistently made the Dean’s list and actively contributed to the academic environment. Serving as the secretary of business and finance for the 81st administration of Spelman’s Student Government Association, she demonstrated leadership and dedication.
Amaia's engagement extended beyond campus as she participated in Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT) as a Career Prep Fellow and contributed to economic research as a Spelman-Sloan Scholar and VLab research assistant.
Desiring to make a positive impact in her career, Amaia expressed her ambition to pursue a profession related to capital allocation with a focus on addressing historical disparities. Growing up in a family business setting, she gained firsthand insights into how financial decisions can catalyze positive changes in minority communities.
Post-graduation, Amaia is set to join Princeton University Investment Company (PRINCO) as an investment analyst. Her vision is to bridge the gap between capital and social change, emphasizing that wealth should not only be a means for material gain but a catalyst for broader societal transformations.
