In a significant development at Ambrose Alli University (AAU) in Ekpoma, Edo State, the university's management is reportedly considering the rustication of 16 members of the student union leadership who led a protest against an increase in tuition fees. The move has drawn attention and raised concerns about students' rights and the university's response.

The names of the affected students' union leaders were disclosed in a letter which was addressed to various top university officials, including the Vice Chancellor and Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellors of Academic and Administration. The leaders facing potential suspension include Oshioke Abdulfatai Ibrahim, Bahel Adaeze Princess, Edubamoh Lifted Oyinbo, Victor Orobosa Osakue, Oghenovo Andrew, Marcus Oluwadamilola, Theo-Doza Ekundayo Folorunsho, Osasumwen Emmanuel, and Emmanuel Enoghama.

Furthermore, the list includes Igoh Christopher Osas, Adewole Adedayo, Olusegun Success, Ilegbodu Destiny, Abiola Oluwaseyi, and Jimah Mubarak.

Reports also suggest that the university's management has reached out to the parents of these student leaders and has allegedly employed the Department of State Services (DSS) to exert pressure on them. The DSS, according to sources, collected the students' biodata and contacted their parents, advising them to persuade their children to withdraw from the protest and cease requesting the reversal of the increased school fees.

In response to these allegations, the university's Public Relations Officer, Otunba Mike Aladenika, has denied the planned suspension of the students. He suggested that the documents circulating may be a form of preemptive blackmail and clarified that the management is addressing a meeting between select students and the DSS.
