Ambrose Alli University Governing Council Appoints Prof. Samuel Olowo as Acting Vice-Chancellor

The newly inaugurated Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, has announced the appointment of Prof. Samuel Olowo as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

The newly inaugurated Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, has announced the appointment of Prof. Samuel Olowo as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution. Prof. Olowo, who currently serves as the Provost of the College of Medicine, is set to take over the role following the departure of the current Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sonnie Adagbonyin.

In a letter of appreciation dated August 28, 2024, and made available to The PUNCH on August 29, Prof. Adagbonyin expressed his gratitude and explained his decision to step aside. The transition is part of a plan announced by the university's Governing Council aimed at appointing a substantive Vice-Chancellor.

Prof. Adagbonyin stated, "On Wednesday, August 28th, 2024, the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University announced a transition plan towards the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor for the university. By this arrangement, I will be stepping aside next week and handing over the office of Acting Vice-Chancellor to the newly elected Provost of the College of Medicine, Prof. Samuel Olowo."

He also extended his thanks to Governor Godwin Obaseki for the opportunity to serve and to the Commissioner of Education, Dr. Joan Oviawe, for her unwavering support. "I want to thank Governor Godwin Obaseki for the opportunity given me to serve and our Commissioner of Education, Dr. Joan Oviawe, whose support in various ways made it possible for my management team and I to make our modest contributions to the development of Ambrose Alli University, even as we navigated turbulent waters," he said.

Prof. Adagbonyin, who was appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor on February 8, 2022, following the removal of Prof. Benson Osadolor, expressed profound gratitude to his colleagues and the education community for their friendship and camaraderie.

The transition marks a new chapter for Ambrose Alli University as it moves towards appointing a substantive Vice-Chancellor under the leadership of Prof. Samuel Olowo.
