ASUU-BUK Meets with SUG to Discuss Upcoming Strike Action

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Bayero University, Kano (BUK) Chapter, has held a crucial meeting with the Executives of the Students' Union Government (SUG), Bayero University, Kano (BUK) to discuss the impending two-week total and comprehensive warning strike.

The strike, which is set to commence at midnight on October 13, 2025, is due to the Federal Government's failure to address the union's demands, half months’ salaries and has not addressed the outstanding 25-35% salary arrears and promotion arrears owed to lecturers for over four years.

The Chairman of ASUU-BUK Chapter, Mr. Ibrahim Tajo Siraj, emphasized that the decision to withdraw services became essential following the Federal Government's failure to address the union's demands after a 14-day ultimatum. He urged the SUG and the broader student body to recognize that this action is vital for securing a viable public education system.

The SUG President, Comr. Abdullahi Usman Baba, expressed appreciation for ASUU-BUK's efforts in keeping the student body informed about ongoing negotiations with the Federal Government. He emphasized the importance of consultation and conciliation before confrontation, acknowledging that the union's actions are ultimately for the benefit of the students.

The strike is expected to affect academic activities in the university, with students expressing concerns about the impact on their academic calendar. The SUG President called on all relevant stakeholders to ensure that ASUU’s legitimate demands are met promptly to facilitate the swift resumption of academic activities .
